Install Windows On Mac Powerbook G4
Romancing Saga Iso Ps2 Jeux. I have a Mac PowerBook G4. Installing Ubuntu on PowerBook G4. Make a Linux install CD on a Mac but Use it to Install Linux on a Windows Machine.
Hi there, My partner has had a Powerbook G4 for about 18months. For a while now it has been performing poorly, freezing/pausing many times during general use. I am newish to Mac and would like some advice on how to repair the problem. My first thought is to wipe the hard drive clean and perform a fresh install. How easy is this?, any walk through instructions available?
I have the two operating software disks. But I dont think we have other application software cd's?
Such as microsoft office, are these already on the install disks or will I need to find a copy? Any advice appreciated thanks. If you have the software restore disks that came with the machine (or a retail set of install disks for a newer version of the OS), then a reformat + reinstall is very easy to do. Of course, you should back up any data you care to preserve first. If you wipe the disk and reinstall the OS, you will have to reconfigure the system and all the applications, because the configuration/preferences files will be destroyed.
You will likely have to reinstall any third party applications as well. You could choose an 'Archive and install' option that preserves your existing configuration and preferences. That said - it probably won't solve your problems. Mac OS X is not Windows. You don't wipe the disk and reinstall everything every few months like Windows users.
The types of problems you describe are typically caused by either hardware problems (usually RAM, harddisk, or motherboard issues), or poorly performing applications (like 10.4 Spotlight indexing or Safari v2.0.2). Reinstalling the OS (and upgrading to the most recent versions) will not fix those problems. Thanks for your comments There does seem to be more freezing while Safari is running. It is version 1.3 (v312). Can I update this to make Safari run smoother? How To Install A Modem Cox.
I don't think it would be a problem to reformat + reinstall, then reconfigure preferences. I know someone with copy disk for MS Office, can I find the serial codes on the Mac to use if I want to reinstall from another copy? Backing up the data is fine, can do easily. You say reinstall may not fix the problem anyway? Would it be best to take to a Mac technician to do a health check and see what needs to be done?
